Summer Face Base Essentials | Chelsea Posts Beauty

Hey everyone. The weather here in the UK is slowly heating up meaning makeup meltdowns are upon us. In this post I've thrown together a few products from my stash which I think will help give some coverage and prevent any greasy faces during the summer months. To perfect your basic base I've included a variety of BBs, to powder, to concealer and bronzer.

First up. Overall Base. If you have oily skin like me you've probably tried to avoid BB creams and tinted moisturisers like the plague. Most of them offer 'dewy' finishes and don't have any oil control whatsoever. However there are the few odd stars out there that do perform well for oily skin. BB's are great because they are lighter than foundation and they are literally weightless on the skin, the last thing you need in hot weather is that awful cakey makeup feel on your face! Also they tend to include a higher level of SPF which is better for summer. Nowadays they do provide better coverage and some are even specifically catered for those with blemished skin. Apply to the centre of your face and work towards the outer part of your face or simply apply on problem areas. Even if your sceptical - its worth a try! I've just recently ordered a tube of Benefits Big Easy Better than BB cream which sadly isn't here yet for me to include but I will update you when it arrives.

I've reviewed the Maybelline Pure BB with salicylic acid for oily skin here and the Garnier BB Cream for oily skin here.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser in St. Moriz with SPF35 RRP £28 Selfridges which I've had since the start of the year from when I came back from India (It coped well out there!) This is an oil free formula and can create a light-medium coverage that works well under humid conditions. When powdered it should last you around 6 hours before shine becomes an issue.

As for powder. You can either use powder as your actual entire base or to mattify the cream you have already applied. I've featured L'Oreal True Match Powder in W6 and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark which for me personally are an ideal high street and high end powder which adds slight coverage and share good oil controlling properties. Powders are a great alternative base for those who would just prefer to wear sunscreen and a layer of powder for extra coverage. If you really cannot stand the feel of anything on your face on a hot day powder paired with concealer is perhaps your go to - especially if you suffer from oily skin. Just make sure you wear sun protection underneath.

Extra Coverage. Not everyone's skin is perfect (Especially mine!) so a layer of BB or powder perhaps isn't enough to cover every blemish whether that be a spot, scar or under eye circles. However you need a concealer which not only covers but also lasts - preferably without constant reapplication. Concealer is also ideal if you just want to cover certain areas but not the entire face but like I mentioned previously - make sure you wear sunscreen underneath! Above I've featured Maybelline FIT ME Concealer in 20, Maybelline SuperStay 24 hour concealer in 3 and Collection Concealer in 01. I have a tonne of concealers with excellent coverage and staying power e.g Benefit Boing concealer but these are the ones I grabbed at first sight. For me personally these are 3 of the best Highstreet concealers all costing under £10 each - bargain.

Bronze up. No Summer base is complete without a bit of bronze. Whether you're really pale or really dark, a bit of bronzer is perfect for completing your summer look. What's great about summer is that you can get away with using a shimmery or matte bronzer - whatever your preference. Just apply on the temples, cheeks and on the nose and chin where the sun would naturally hit your face to emphasise your tan or to give the impression of sun kissed skin! Here are two of my favourite bronzers NARS Laguna Bronzer £26 Selfridges and Bourjois Delice De Poudre in shade 51 £7.99 Boots.
